Week 6 (Web Publishing)
Publishing is the process of production and dissemination of literature or information – the activity of making information available for public view. In some cases authors may be their own publishers, meaning: originators and developers of content also provide media to deliver and display the content.
Traditionally the term has referred to the distribution of printed works but the shift from the traditional methods to the new technological age, shows the importance of the web. The idea of electronic distribution, such as music, television and the pod cast culture.
The client sends an address to a name server which then finds the web server to which the name belongs, the web server then produces the files that was asked for and then returns it to the browser window, which is a quite simple description. This reveals the ideas that to publish files on the world wide web we need a web server, some where to put our files and an address on a name server which tells people where to find those files. You need two things web hosing and a URL. After these two processes have been completed, your own HTML files need to be transferred to the web hosting site, so that when your URL has been typed in your information will be displayed on the browser. This is brought about by FTP which stands for file transfer protocol, which is ideal for transferring files across a network. This can be done by programs such as TRANSMIT which upload you html files to the client server. Dreamweaver also had a built in FTP functionality.
